And so we continue to the fourth event on the Road to EuroSteamCon Portugal! On the last Friday of this month, the 31st of July, at 11am PDT / 7pm GMT, we’ll be speaking with Shelley Adina. Although she also writes books in other genres, she’s known by the steampunk series Magnificent Devices!
With courageous heroines, zeppelins, big locomotives and submarines, and adventures throughout the world, this series has now 8 volumes. The most recent book, A Gentleman of Means, was published on May of this year. Will it be the last, or will we have more adventures with Lady Claire Trevelyan and her companions? Join us in the Hangout and find out!
As always, we will be waiting your questions, which can be sent to email@example.com, or made at the Google Hangout itself. We also have a Facebook event which you can join.
Another month and another event on the Road to EuroSteamCon Portugal! This time we’ll be speaking with Professor Elemental, a host and Hip Hop artist who describes himself as “a steampunk flavoured mad Professor, I’ll brew you a nice Hip Hop number, stir in some comedy, and then serve it with scones.”
On July 15th, a Wednesday, the Professor will speak with us about his work and how it’s influenced by steampunk, at 3pm GMT (10am EDT). An example of his work is the song for which he first became known, Cup of Brown Joy, and All In Together, where several steampunk fans participated. At the end of the post we will share his most recent music video, Don’t Feed the Trolls.
As always, get your questions ready! You can send them to our email firstname.lastname@example.org, post them on our Facebook page, or even on the event’s page.
After a great Hangout with Jim Butcher, we’re announcing the next event of Road to EuroSteamCon! Soon we’ll publish a summary of our interview with the author, as well as subtitles for the video, but until then you can watch it here.
On May 24th, a Sunday, by 2pm EDT or 7pm GMT, author Cherie Priest will join us for a Google Hangout to speak about her steampunk books and the genre itself.
This is the second event of the Road to EuroSteamCon Portugal, a series of events until the convention in October. If everything goes according to plan, it won’t be the last! However, we welcome any opinions and suggestions!
The author has an extensive steampunk biography. Her The Clockwork Century series counts with 7 books, and she’s also participated in several anthologies, such as The Mammoth Book of Steampunk, Steampunk Reloaded, Steampunk Revolution, The Thackery T. Lambshead Cabinet of Curiosities, and others.
Until the day of the event you can send your questions to email@example.com. During the Hangout, you’ll be able to do it on the video itself, on our Facebook page, or on YouTube’s comment section. Until then you can join our event!
The Northern Court is happy to announce that on May 7th, a Thursday, by 2PM CT / 8PM GMT, we’ll host a Google Hangout with the author Jim Butcher.
This event (which you can join here) is part of the Road to EuroSteamCon, which will have several events and activities as we prepare for the convention in October. So keep an eye out, this will not be the only event of the sort! But for now we’ll keep the mystery, we have a reputation to maintain.
In this Google Hangout we’ll talk about steampunk and the author’s new book, THE AERONAUT’S WINDLASS, the first in the The Cinder Spires series, which will be out on the 29th of September. Everyone is welcome to watch it and you’ll be able to contribute with questions in the chat that will be available then. But we invite you to leave us questions now in the comments, or to send us an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org! Although we’re going to focus on this new book, and the genre it belongs to, you can also ask questions about The Dresden Files series (but getting to those will depend on the author’s availability).
This new series is described as ““Horatio Hornblower meets The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen—it’s a fantastic, creative new series of airships, privateers, warrior monks, and mad sorcerers. It’s steampunk meets magic with a dose of sci-fi for seasoning.” This is the synopsis for the first The Cinder Spires book:
Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace.
Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship, Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. But when the Predator is severely damaged in combat, leaving captain and crew grounded, Grimm is offered a proposition from the Spirearch of Albion—to join a team of agents on a vital mission in exchange for fully restoring Predator to its fighting glory.
And even as Grimm undertakes this dangerous task, he will learn that the conflict between the Spires is merely a premonition of things to come. Humanity’s ancient enemy, silent for more than ten thousand years, has begun to stir once more. And death will follow in its wake.
You can read an excerpt from the 2nd chapter here.
Leave us your questions, and we hope to see you on the 7th of May! We’ll publish the link to the Hangout here on the blog and on our Facebook page.
